One Man’s Trash is Another Person’s Treasure

Being frugal can be hard for some people. But for hard working parents these days you may feel you have to be. With todays bills, groceries, household necessities, etc. it can get tight on your wallet real quick. I know it can get rough for us at times but making most of what you already have makes the process fun. It forces you to be creative and and think outside the box.

One fine example is reusing items you may tend to simply throw away when you’ve used it all up. Take baby wipe containers as an example. They usually come in a small travel size container that you may refill or a larger size for home. These containers are sometimes easily thrown in the garbage. I like to reuse them. Put small trinkets in them, rubber bands, batteries, bandaids, etc. Whatever you can think of. You could even decorate it to your liking. I’ve even seen someone use it to plant vegetables. Similar containers are cleaning wipe containers and flushable wipe containers too. Use it for what your heart desires! Become an organizing professional or creative whiz.

Some other bright ideas that I have yet to try is using mason jars. Im guilty for this, thinking i’ve used it enough times and I threw it away!  You can reuse this item and turn it into a reusable soap dispenser. Take you old soda can or canned foods and turn it into simple pencil holders. Take your old paper toilet rolls and fancy them up into little gift boxes. Using the container your eggs came in for a planter is genius. What I’ve seen to be super cute and useful is using tic tac containers for small storage for your sugars and spices. There’s so many awesome ideas and its already getting my creative senses tingling inside. These ideas are easily found online, just simply google and you’d be surprised at what you can find.

Does your family reuse your household items? What do you use them for? I’m open to new ideas. Reuse your items and save money for more things that matter in life. Everything is a treasure in life and it is only what you make of it that matters!Baby Wipes Reused!Mini Sugar And Spice Containers! Planters! Coffee Creamers turned Into Containers!

Summertime in Hawaii

It’s summer everybody! Lets go camping, take our children to the park, and go fishing at the beach! What to you like to do on summer vacation with your family. This is our first summer all together. Usually Alexiis has summer school and Michael and I are working. We can all picture  summer time to be filled with blue skies, sandy beaches, crisp waves, green grass, etc. Especially in Hawaii where the weather is always gorgeous. This summer has been a little different for us but I’m kind of digging it. This time around its a gloomy, rainy, muddy mess.

Its just about June as I look out my window now. Its dark and gray sky, bringing down the rain. Don’t get me wrong. I love the rain. So does Alexiis because she gets to play in it with the other children that is outside too. Not for long though, we don’t want anyone to get sick. Michael and l get to work on our business, make food, and clean the house. I already did the laundry, clean the bathroom and bedrooms yesterday. I guess its the kitchen and on to folding the clothes today.

Alexiis has things to do in her day too such as her language arts and math workbooks. I bought them online from Tri-C publications Inc. We work on them in the morning. The rest of the day is spent doing activities and making sure she eats her snacks and takes a nap. Sometimes she will play with her friends in the neighborhood. I should really limit her iPad usage. Does you child love their iPad or tablet?  It’s literally ’til death do us part, type of thing with her. What do you do when trying to limit your children’s usage. Any fun suggestions?

Hawaii is a beautiful place with beautiful weather usually. Hopefully the rain passes so we can have a day to go to the carnival. What is your family doing over the summer?

Clean House, Clear Mind, Better Life

Now I am nothing near to a clean freak. Lets be clear, I am pretty moderate when it comes to clean. Laundry is done normally, folding and putting them away is a different story, dishes are done by Michael regularly, shoe rack gets fixed by Alexiis once in awhile, and the rest is done when needed. Not too shabby.

I’ve come to realize that for my household and I, we can let things go a bit sometimes. Maybe the clothes get out of hand, the dishes pile up, or our things are just disorganized around the home. Maybe it’s from sickness, fatigue, or some other unknown reason that  causes a ruckus in the cleanliness in our home. The cleanliness and organization actually plays a large role in how you feel. And the way one feels, makes an impact on everyone in the household. Not just yourself.

You wouldn’t think that would make a difference at all but think about it. When you take a vacation, the hotel is beautiful and very well put together. The colors are vibrant and make you really feel alive. Same with your own home. If you had to come home to a house that looked like a tornado went through it, you would feel a certain way about it right?

I had a friend that was less tidy than I. She would kind of let things go until it was really bad or difficult to clean. She was also very stressed quite often, irritable, and always felt lazy and tired. I would wonder if this was connected with her surroundings? What you don’t want to do is  wait too long because thats when the bigger problems arise from neglecting your home. In her kitchen she had two separate sinks and supposedly she never paid attention to the other sink and it just got backed up over time. Don’t ask me what happen to it, just understand it was so bad we had to call a plumber in Honolulu to fix it and it costed her a pretty penny. Ouch.  She now has a different perspective on her home and takes better care of it. She is way more energized, and upbeat, and happy.

So mothers, fathers, children, lets come together and help each other to make our houses into a home.  A place we can all feel comfortable in. A sanctuary where magic happens and our minds are free to explore the possibilities of the world. A clean house, is a clearer mind, to a better living.

Have you noticed a connection between cleanliness and happiness? What are your thoughts or suggestions? I’m exercising the idea of making DIY products to clean and organize our homes. If you’re interested to see this like and comment. Let me know, its about to get real!

Not All Treasure is Silver & Gold

I just had this stick out to me today for some reason. Besides blogging I do have a life when the computer is turned off. My boyfriend and I are really into our own business. I just find it funny because this stuck out to me, but not typically on one specific subject. This is diverse and I am applying to all of the aspects to my life and am contemplating it all right now. Step into my mind.

First thing I was really appreciative for was I thought about “Not all treasure is silver and gold” for our business. In our business we sometimes have to reach out to business owners. I was thinking just last week that quantity is more. It could possibly help but not necessarily either. Example, I’ll create a custom video for business owners. Last week I was basically making not very thought out videos, but I was just sending them out. Now the other day. I spent a lot of time with one video. I put in a lot of time creating this video to the best of my ability and hope and wish that business owner will get in contact with me. Ofcourse I’m emailing them and following up but you get it right?

Another example is with Michael and Alexiis. I am probably far away from being frugal. I really should be taking notes on Michael because he is so frugal its insane. You could probably give him a cardboard box and twenty dollars and he’s come out a millionaire. Im sure of it! Anyways I always think too big. My thinking is for us to have an amazing night we have to go big, go hard, spend all this money, etc. When in actuality, our most prized memories together is the most simplest of times. Its incredible how we can be playing cards on the floor, to chit chatting and tickling and how that makes you feel.

Its the small things that matter. Don’t ever forget that. What do you take from this? What are the small things you are appreciative for?

Bonding through Video Games

Wii Games

Video Games. Everyone has their thoughts and opinions on them. It can become a bad thing when it’s abused and it can have beneficial qualities when used sparingly from what I understand. Video games also have ratings for a reason. This is to inform parents beforehand if the game is appropriate for their child’s age. Being aware and being present also can help with this subject.

See, I grew up with video games in my childhood. Sega Genesis was the first console I ever laid hands on. Sonic and Street Fighter was my first video games! Oh the memories I had playing on that thing! I can remember it clear as day. Sitting on the carpeted floor, crosslegged, my eyes so mesmerized.  I was just amazed at the fact that I could use this controller and control this little guy named Sonic to get through a level full of bad guys and gold rings. That’s where my fascination with video games first started its blaze in my heart.

Now that I am older and with a child of my own, I don’t play video games as much. But I find it interesting to see my daughter just as intrigued as I was when I was as small as her. She wants to play different video games, learn new things, and explore the video game world. I kind of have to say, “whoa there, you’re getting way over your head.” She is very strong willed and believes she can play anything and be good at it. If it doesn’t work, she will blame it on the video game. Sometimes she would holler at it too.

Video games can be very beneficial to children and teens when played in moderation. If the hours played is abused, there seems to be a very negative affect. Playing games together or as a team is a sure fire way to bond with your children. Games have been played over generations and generations.  Board games was and still is a great way to play with the whole family. Now in this new day, playing a device with a controller to move a character or do something on your television is totally normal. As crazy as it may sound to our ancestors.

The Wii systems is a super fun console to play on, great for people of all ages. Yes even the adults! The controllers is simple, which you hold in one hand. Wii comes with some kind of motion detecting camera that follows where the controller is moving. Don’t quote me on that, I am not a trained professional! Therefore when playing the boxing game, you stand, punch, throw blows in the video game, while here in reality you are punching nothing but thin air. It’s great for exercise and getting all of the family engaged. It comes with all sorts of goodies such as bowling, tennis, boxing, sword fighting, and even dance. Boxing really gets me all pumped up and breaking a sweat!

Try it out for yourself and see how video games can make an a difference in the way you bond with your family. Also leave me a comment below explaining what you have been having fun with! I’d love to hear and try new things with my family!
